I was asked to post the overview slides (for the second exam) I presented in class.
The second exam will cover Chapters 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, and the material on NoSQL database systems.
Here they are: kiferComp_348761_ppt24.
Here are the slides we have covered in recent days:
Please make sure you read the following:
Chapter 16, Chapter 17.1 to 17.6 (inclusive), Chapter 18, Chapter 19.1 to 19.3.2 (inclusive), Chapter 23.1 to 23.2.1 (inclusive), Chapter 24.
I will post more slides after we have covered Chapter 24 and material that is not in the book.
Here are the overview slides for the course project, as we discussed in class: db-fall2014-project.
Please read 9.3, 9.4, 9.5.
Please read all of Chapter 10 (But you can skim most of 10.5 and not worry about the methods for calculating the costs of joins – all you need to worry about in this section are what it means to execute a join using nested loops in the two ways presented in 10.5 and how to execute a join using sort-merge). You can skip 10.6.
Also read Chapter 11, but do not worry about 11.4.
Please read Chapter 13, but do not worry about 13.6.
